Nurse Practitioners

St Ben's is a nurse practitioner managed clinic that strives to be a primary care "home" for persons who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. We care for adults having common chronic health problems, such as high blood pressure and diabetes, as well as minor episodic problems, such as colds and sore throats. We provide health screenings, immunizations, and wellness exams. We offer frequent appointment follow-ups and longer appointment times to ensure the highest quality care possible.

We work in collaboration with our physician volunteers and are able to make referrals to most medical specialists when needed. We work not only with our clinic team but also with community services, such as case workers and shelters.

Recognizing issues that are unique to persons who are homeless, we incorporate living situations, transportation needs, medication cost and storage, addiction and mental health concerns into a comprehensive plan of care for each patient. This often requires taking a "window of opportunity" approach, accomplishing as much as possible within a single patient encounter since follow-up visits may be difficult for the patient to keep.
